For you installers out there that may be looking for a tool for shade analysis, Take a look at this app and hardware from Photon!
Hi folks, my co-founder and I recently launched our product, Photon (https://www.tryphoton.com) which lets you do shade analysis with your smartphone or tablet (Apple only for now). You might have seen us at Intersolar or Solar Power International this year.
Our story is that we’re a team of two software developers who’ve worked at places like Apple, Nextdoor, and Yelp and have volunteered on rooftops in the past through SunWork. We saw that the industry was using tools like the Solmetric SunEye for shade analysis. Since there are almost no hardware differences between the SunEye and your smartphone, it seemed like someone should build an app. Especially when each SunEye costs thousands of dollars apiece.
Our solution is two parts: first is our app, and second is a fisheye lens that clips onto your phone. We send the lens to you for free when you buy any one of our subscription plans. If you’re an installer looking to replace your SunEyes soon or find that there aren’t enough to go around in your company, we’d love if you’d give our product a try.
If this sounds interesting, you can find Photon on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photon-shade-analysis-in-seconds/id1132949944?mt=8). If you have an Android device, PM me here on Reddit and I’ll add you to the waitlist for Android. If you have questions about how accurate our app is, PM me on Reddit and I’ll send you a copy a rigorous study we did between Solmetric SunEye and Photon.
